Hindi is derived from Sanskrit and often thought of as a root language for many others spoken in the Indian Subcontinent. Some of the words and phrases spoken in Hindi are also the same or similar as those spoken in many others (e.g. Punjabi, Urdu, Marathi, Persian) and many people in this region speak Hindi as an additional language.
